SUMMARY OF REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PROFESSIONAL GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN OPTICAL SCIENCES

 

 

Requirements:

 

There is no core curriculum for the Professional Certificate in Optics.  Students are required to complete 15 units of University of Arizona Optical Sciences courses with a grade of B or better. Five 3 unit courses either on campus or by distance meets the 15 unit required for the certificate program.   The certificate has no on campus residency requirement.

 

Registering For Courses:

 

Certificate students enrolling in distance classes will register through the UofA Continuing Education Distance Learning.  Those who are on-campus will register for classes through Student Link.

 

Continuous Enrollment & GPA:

 

Continuous enrollment is required and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is required. If you are unable to take classes in a given semester, you may submit a Leave of Absence Form for the semester.

 

Plan of Study:

 

When nearing completion of the 15 units required for the certificate students must complete a Certificate Plan of Study to be approved by the Associate Dean of Academic Programs and submitted to the Graduate College Degree Certification Office.  

 

Transfer Coursework:

 

Up to 6 units of University of Arizona Optical Sciences courses taken in non-degree graduate student status may be applied to the certificate program (grade of B or higher).

 

Time Limit  to Certificate Completion:

 

The time limit to complete the Certificate Program is 4 years.  If you are transferring University of Arizona optical sciences classes previously taken in non-degree status the time to complete begins with the semester/year of the first course transferred.

 

Transcript:

 

Upon completion of the Certificate Program students may request an official transcript from the Registrar’s Office at the University of Arizona.  The awarded certificate will appear on the student transcript.
