CURRENT OPTICAL SCIENCES' GRADUATE STUDENT
HOUSING RECOMMENDATIONS & SUGGESTIONS
- Rent a house or guest house and find a roommate or two to share expenses. The price per person for a 2 or 3 bedroom house is usually cheaper than a single room apartment or studio near the U of A. You will get more sq. footage and it will be in a nicer neighborhood.
- Rent a place with A/C. Rental properties that have A/C are usually in better condition and in better neighborhoods. The swamp only properties are invariably in the undergrad zone and look run-down and have obnoxious neighbors.
- Use craigslist to look for housing and start early! http://tucson.craigslist.org/
- University Fremont at 321 N Fremont Avenue recommended for graduate students http://www.apartmentratings.com/rate/AZ-Tucson-University-Fremont.html
- Capistrano Apartments 2929 E 6th Street www.capistranoapts.com is about a mile bike ride from campus. Rent was reasonable and included utilities.

There are apartments on the corner of Country Club and 6th street (where 6th street turns into 5th street) that they are close to campus. Plus there is a bike path that goes along 3rd street from campus to Country Club. Students also live north of campus. If they are looking for apartments there are some good options north (and north east) of Grant. One good street to check out is Tucson from Grant to Glenn. Another option is on Campbell and Speedway, Palm Shadows (I think). It's not great but it's good for the location if you want something very close. Don't go too far south (below 22nd street) and there isn’t much west of campus.
