Affiliates, we are planning our 2009 Spring Workshop with you in mind.  We are working with our faculty members to ensure that you have the opportunity to hear about their most significant and exciting research initiatives.  Our graduate students are also planning to present their research to you and -- back by popular demand -- our undergraduate seniors will present their Senior Capstone Projects.  Affiliates, those of you who attended our first-ever Fall workshop last October had a hand in shaping these projects and in offering our students advice and real-world suggestions.

Our list of planned activities is extensive and will include tours of our research laboratories, a very special student poster session, tours of our collection of antique and historical optics, and a company showcase -- a relatively new event that is proving quite popular both with the companies that participate and with our students and faculty members who hope to learn a little more about you and the company you work for.

The showcase, scheduled for late afternoon of the 24th, is completely optional and the nominal registration fee is the only cost incurred in conjunction with the entire workshop.  The showcase is a wonderful venue for Industrial Affiliates to showcase their companies to our students and faculty.  We will provide six-foot long tables and linens for your tabletop exhibit.  Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served.

In addition to the formal portion of the agenda, we will also schedule a number of opportunities for our Affiliates to get together informally with our students at lunches and coffee breaks.

Affiliates, we have been conducting workshops since Jack Gaskill started our Industrial Affiliates program more than 30 years ago and the workshops continue to be one of our most eagerly anticipated events.  It's always a great pleasure to spend time with our professional associates and introduce our students and faculty members to them.  If you haven't attended one of our workshops -- either a traditional spring workshop or one of our freewheeling fall workshops, we sincerely hope you will consider joining us.
