Optical Sciences Open Laboratories
Tuesday, March 4, 2008 2:30 p.m. to 4:00p.m.
Please note: The Optical Sciences building faces North, and the Academic Programs Office , Meinel 403, is in the North West corner of the main building. The main elevator for the building is diagonally across the hall from Academic Programs. The street level floor where you enter the building is the fourth floor.
Aspheric Metrology Laboratory: Professor John Greivenkamp, Room 106G Take the elevator across from Academic Programs down to the first floor. Turn right out of the elevator, and go around the corner. Continue down the hallway past the conference area to reach room 106G.
Opthalmic Optics Laboratory: Professor James Schwiegerling, Room 106L Take the elevator across from Academic Programs down to the first floor. Turn right out of the elevator, go around the corner and down the hallway to the conference area. Room 106L is the first door on your right next to the conference area.
Large and Small Optics Fabrication Shops: Mr. Martin Valente, Room 119 Take the elevator across from Academic Programs down to the first floor. Turn left out of the elevator and go down the hallway as it jogs left and then right, continuing on through the door across the end of the hallway until you reach the optics shop itself at the very end. Go on in and Optics Shop personnel should be there to show you around.
Fiber Drawing Laboratory: Professor Nasser Peyghambarian, Room 129A Take the elevator across from Academic Programs down to the first floor. Turn left out of the elevator and go down the hallway as it jogs left and then right, continuing on through two sets of double doors that cross the hallway until you reach the last doorway on the left, just as you enter the small optics shop.
Fiber Laser Laboratory: Professor Nasser Prof. Peyghambarian, Room 229A Take the elevator across from the Academic Office down to the second floor. Take a left out of the elevator, and go down the hallway as it jogs left and then right, continuing on to room 229A-B on your left at the far end of the hallway.
Integrated Optoelectronics Laboratory: Professor Nasser Peyghambarian, Room 229B Take the elevator across from the Academic Office down to the second floor. Take a left out of the elevator, and go down the hallway as it jogs left and then right, continuing on to room 229A-B on your left at the far end of the hallway.
3D Visualization Laboratories: Professor Hong Hua, Rooms 444 and 448 From the Academic Office, go all the way down the front corridor to the NE corner of the building, turn right and continue down the hallway to room 444 or 448, on the right-hand side of the hallway.
Photonic Devices and Telecommunications Systems Laboratory: Professor Franko Kueppers, Room 455 This laboratory is located along the south hallway of the new West Wing’s fourth floor. Thin Films Laboratory: Professor Nasser Peyghambarian, Room 518 Take the elevator across from the Academic Office up to the fifth floor. Turn right out of the elevator, turn right again, and go down the front corridor to room 518, on the right-hand side of the hallway.
The following laboratories are all located along the south hallway of the new West Wing’s fifth floor:
Glass Fabrication Laboratory: Professor Nasser Peyghambarian, Room 553 Thin Film and Materials Analysis: Professor Nasser Peyghambarian, Room 555 Novel Lasers Laboratory: Professor Nasser Peyghambarian, Room 557 3-D Display Laboratory: Professor Nasser Peyghambarian, Room 563 Sensors/Fiber Devices Laboratory: Professor Nasser Peyghambarian, Room 565 Electroactive Eyewear/Imaging: Professor Nasser Peyghambarian, Room 567
Bose-Einstein Condensation Laboratory: Professor Brian Anderson, Room 572 Take any elevator or stairs to 5th floor. Walk to the eastern most section of the complex.
Polymer and Sol-gel Optics Laboratory: Professor Mahmoud Fallahi, Room 574 Take the elevator across from the Academic Office up to the fifth floor. Turn right out of the elevator, go all the way down the front corridor to the NE corner of the building, turn right again and continue down the hallway to rooms 574, which is about halfway down the hallway on your left.
Laser Cooling & Trapping Group Laboratory: Professor Poul Jessen, Rooms 568 and 570 East wing 5th floor.
Photonic Devices Laboratory: Professor Alan Kost, Room 603A Take the elevator across from the Academic Office up to the sixth floor. Turn right out of the elevator, and then right again around the corner of the hallway. Room 603A is on the right-hand side of the hallway.
Semiconductor Quantum Optics: Professors Hyatt Gibbs and Galina Khitrova, Room 664
Femptosecond Spectroscopy: Professors Hyatt Gibbs and Galina Khitrova, Room 676
Microfabrication Clean Rooms, Rooms 712A – 712C Take the elevator across from the Academic Office up to the seventh floor. Turn right out of the elevator, and go down the front corridor. The clean rooms 712A – 712C can be observed through windows along the right-hand side of the hallway.
Polarization Laboratory: Professor Rusell Chipman, Rooms 765 and 767 Take the elevator in the new (west) wing to the 7th floor. Turn right (south) and you will immediately come to the two rooms.
Optical Detector Labs: Professor Eustace Dereniak, McKale Center -- Room 200NW From the auditorium, go right down the front corridor to the east hallway, turn right again and go all the way down the hallway and out the south (rear) door. Head toward the nearest corner of the parking garage. On your left is McKale Center. Go down the steps through the glass doors into McKale. Take the hallway on the right to the corner, and turn left. Proceed to the end of the hallway to a set of double doors. You will need to ring the buzzer for entry. Large Mirror Fabrication Laboratories, Professor James BurgeThere will be a guided tour to this facility. You will need to sign up for this tour in advance on a sign-up sheet that will be available Wednesday morning. Meet in the 3rd floor lobby of the new West Wing at 2:30 pm.
