Establishing a scholarship fund is one of the most
enduring and meaningful ways to make a difference in
the lives of students and to the worldwide
scientific community.
In March 2006, nearly 100 faculty, alumni,
administrators and friends of the College of Optical
Sciences launched a new fundraising initiative: the
Friends of Tucson Optics Scholarships in Optical
Sciences, with the goal of supporting
as many as 30 graduate students through separate
scholarship funds.
The FoTO scholarships were
established for two reasons: to help young people of
exceptional promise reach their full potential
through education and to help ensure the future of
Arizona's Optics Valley by enrolling the world's
most promising scholars in the OSC's internationally
renowned program.
To date,
three FoTO scholarships have been fully funded
and three FoTO scholarships have been established
to celebrate
optical scientists esteemed for their
contributions to the field. Further contributions in
their honor will always be welcome.
If you have any questions about donating to an
established FoTO scholarship, funding a new award or
spreading the message about the FoTO scholarships,
