Good-bye, Good Luck, Good Wishes

From Barbara Myers, Academic Programs.  The Academic Programs Office is very sad to announce that Didi Lawson, Senior Academic Advisor, is moving to Phoenix at the end of the summer.  After 17 years with the College of Optical Sciences, Didi will move to Phoenix with her husband and embark on a new adventure.  Didi has recruited, oriented, advised, counseled, mentored, reminded and rescued over 1,500 OSC graduate and undergraduate students.  She will be greatly missed.  Because many students will want the opportunity to say good-by to Didi, we are holding a Farewell Party on Friday, May 12th, at 2 p.m. in the 5th floor discussion area of the new building.  Please join us!

Advanced Materials Engineer.  Pratt & Whitney.  East Hartford, CT.  Job Description:  Assist in the development of a variety of new materials and processes.  The focus of this group is the development of advanced materials and coatings with the emphasis on elevated temperature capabilities.   The person will be part of a cohesive team dedicated to the advancement of high temperature materials through innovative application of numerous materials and process technologies.  The person will applying their knowledge of electromagnetic radiation to the evaluation and control of emissions from jet engines.  The person will work closely with product development teams, design groups, and various Government customers.  Requirements:  MS or Ph.D in Physics / Optics with strong hands-on interest in materials is preferred. Engineer, Optical 3.  KLA-Tencor.  Location: San Jose, CA.  Job Duties:  Lead in the development of electron/optical design of advanced electron beam columns using finite-element methods and Monte-Carlo simulations. Participate in detailed designs of electron lenses, guns, deflection and correction elements using Munro's software. Consideration will also be given to candidates with a strong track record of innovation and world class research in charged beam optics, modeling and optimization against space charge, geometric and chromatic aberrations. Candidate must have hands-on experience with design, assembly, testing, and characterization of e-beam optical components. Qualifications:   Candidate should have obtained a minimum of MSc. in Physics or EE, or equivalent, preferably PhD. Work experience should include at least 3 years in e-beam system design, preferably in a design role.  Candidate must be fluent in the electron-optical design of advanced electron-beam columns using finite-element method and Monte-Carlo simulations. The candidate will perform design of electron lenses, guns, deflection and correction elements using Munro's software and/or modify software to optimize simulations, including simulations of electron-electron interactions. Work experience with electron optics simulations and design is required. Experience with Munro's software packages and modifying and writing software is desirable. Engineer, Optical 5.  KLA-Tencor.  Location: Milpitas, CA.  Qualifications:  Masters degree or foreign equivalent plus five years experience in the job offered or ten years experience as a Design Engineer, Optical Engineer or related Engineering occupation. Requires Systems engineering experience preparing sensitivity and error models for optical designs. Engineer, Optical 5.  KLA-Tencor.  Location: Milpitas, CA.  Duties:  Be part of a team of optical engineers developing state of art wafer inspection equipments. Develop experiments to investigate new optical design concepts and optical components. Design optical sub-systems and alignment procedures. Interact with vendors to qualify optical assemblies. Help solving critical production issues related to optical systems. Provide optical analysis support to help solving optical system issues and improve overall equipment performance. Qualifications:  MS+ in optics with 5+ years relevant industrial experience focusing optical engineering. Strong background in optical imaging and optical system design.
