Alumni News

C. Lee Giles, OSC PhD 1981 and the David Reese Professor of Information Sciences and Technology in the Penn State College of Information Sciences and Technology, has been named a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) -- possibly the first from OSC.  ACM commended him for "contributions to information processing and Web analysis."  Congratulations, Lee.

Introducing Young-Bin Han

OSC visiting research scholar Jeong-Yeol Han and his wife, Seunghee Kang, are the proud parents of a new baby boy.  Young-Bin Han arrived on June 15 at 8:07 and weighed in at a very nice 7 pounds, 11 ounces.  Jeong-Yeol said that the baby's given name has two meanings: heart of spirit and everlasting light -- perhaps making Young-Bin the first OSC baby to have a name that is optics-inspired.  Congratulations, Jeong-Yeol and Seunghee, on your beautiful new son.

Employment Opportunities with OSC Industrial Affiliate Companies

Intern.  Aurora Optical.

Aurora Optical in Tucson, AZ is seeking an Optical Sciences senior/grad student for a paid internship.  The student can expect to gain experience in lens design, tolerancing, stray light analysis, and measurement of plastic, injection-molded lens properties (both physical and optical).  The student may also be involved in programming tests with LabVIEW.  This is an excellent opportunity for a student to gain practical skills in a production environment.  Any experience with ZEMAX and LabVIEW is helpful, but not required.  The candidate must also be willing to consider full-time employment as an Optical Engineer at Aurora after graduation.  Employment will begin this summer and continue for 15-20 hour/week during Fall/Spring sessions.  Interested students should contact Paul McClellan at pmcclellan@aurora-optical.com and visit Aurora’s website, www.aurora-optical.com
