Watt's Up

College of Optical Sciences News for July 26, 2007

New to OSC

Over the summer quite a number of new people have joined OSC, so during the next few weeks, please check Watt's Up for a little information about each of our new people.  To get us started, please welcome Jamie Grace and Steve McClain to Optical Sciences.

Jamie Grace, our new Academic Support Specialist, shares desk space (that's right:desk space) with Academics' Cynthia Martinez in room 403.  Jamie owns the desk every afternoon from 3:00 to close of business. She can be reached by telephone at 621-4111, the same number that Cynthia uses, but her email address is her own:  jgrace@optics.arizona.edu  In addition to her work in our Academic Programs office, Jamie is employed by a Tucson graphics design firm.

Stephen McClain, an Associate Research Professor with Russell Chipman's group, comes to Optical Sciences from Raytheon in Santa Barbara where he worked on VIIRS, a next-generation weather climate satellite.  His resume also includes five years in The Netherlands working for Philips on high-definition projection televisions.  Steve's office is in Meinel 745 and he can be reached by telephone at 626-7904 or by email at smcclain@optics.arizona.edu

Baby News

Our former librarian, Maliaca Strom Oxnam (now UA's Science/Engineering Library's optics librarian) and her husband Karl have a new daughter, Gracie Mae, born on April 2.  In addition to Maliaca and Karl, Gracie was welcomed by big sister Gabi and a loving extended family.
