New to OSC
Research at ACMS, the Arizona Center for Mathematical Sciences, is interdisciplinary. It includes the modeling, understanding and applicability of nonlinear processes in optics, fluids, neural networks, and random distributed systems. Current investigations target ultrafast extreme nonlinear optics, microscopic modeling of the optical properties of semiconductor materials, simulation of high power edge and surface emitting semiconductor lasers, computational nanophotonics and plasmonics. The ACMS group is funded by three major research grants and recently won a major instrumentation award to acquire a state-of-the-art terawatt class femtosecond laser facility. This facility should be up and running next month.
The University of Arizona's unique multidisciplinary culture provides a supportive environment for collaborative research among colleagues at the College of Optical Sciences and the Department of Mathematics. Headed by OSC/Math professor Jerome Moloney, ACMS group members work closely with a number of Optical Sciences faculty members, including, but not limited to, Nicolaas Bloembergen, Mahmoud Fallahi, Nasser Peyghambarian, Masud Mansuripur, and Ewan Wright. The group has an ongoing working collaboration with Stephan Koch's group in Marburg, Germany.
