Optics Employment

Please check out additional opportunities at http://www.optics.arizona.edu/employment/default.htm

Post Doc. Norwegian University of Science and Technology.  Position within the area "Intermediate band solar cells" (MBE growth of semiconductor quantum dots) at Department of Electronics and Telecommunications, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway – IME-087-2007.  A postdoctoral fellowship (duration up to 2 years, earliest start March 1st 2008) is offered for work within MBE growth of III-V based semiconductor quantum dot structures for intermediate band solar cells. The work is part of a project entitled "Nanomaterials for 3rd Generation Solar Cells" and is financed by The Research Council of Norway. The aim of the project is to enable growth of high quality quantum dot samples suitable for the realization of intermediate band solar cells. The work will be performed at the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications and at the Department of Physics, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.   The quantum dot samples will be fabricated using MBE, characterised using several characterization techniques and processed into solar cells, and the successful candidate will be involved in all these tasks. The successful candidate will be part of the solar cell physics group at NTNU, and work closely with Post docs, PhD students and others at the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications and at the Department of Physics and with research scientists at SINTEF.   We seek a highly motivated individual holding a PhD degree in physics (specialized in semiconductor physics), physical electronics or other relevant disciplines. The candidate should have demonstrated significant accomplishments in semiconductor/nano materials research and must have extensive experience with MBE growth and UHV systems, and material characterization techniques, including RHEED, AFM, HR-XRD, and PL. In particular, the candidate should have expertise in MBE growth of III-V (preferably InGaAs/GaAs) quantum dots, and a thorough understanding of MBE growth mechanisms and semiconductor quantum dots. Experience from clean room processing of devices is an added advantage. The successful candidate will in part be responsible for maintenance of the MBE facility. The candidate must be interested in team work.  Interested candidates are encouraged to contact Professor Bjørn-Ove Fimland by e-mail (bjorn.fimland (at) iet.ntnu.no) or Associate professor Turid Worren Reenaas by e-mail (turid.reenaas (at) ntnu.no) or telephone +47 7359 0386.  The position is remunerated according to salary code 1352, entry salary level 54-77 on the Norwegian State salary scale. This amounts to an annual gross salary of NOK 394.700.- – 613.100.- (1 NOK ~ 0.125 EUR), of which 2% is deducted for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. Salary will be subject to agreement with your employer.  The successful applicant must agree to the conditions laid down for public employees.  The national labour force must reflect the composition of the population to the greatest possible extent. It is therefore a major political objective to achieve a balance of age and gender and to recruit persons with an immigrant background. Immigrants are encouraged to apply for this post. NTNU wants to increase the proportion of women in its scientific posts. Women are encouraged to apply.  The application must contain information about education, examinations and previous experience. Certified copies of certificates and documents must be attached.  Copies of publications and any other work which the applicant wishes to be taken into account should also be enclosed. Joint works will be considered. If it is difficult to specify the input of the applicant in a joint work, a short summary should be attached outlining the applicant's input.  Applications are to be sent to the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Faculty of Information Technology, Mathematics and Electrical Engineering, NO-7491 Trondheim, Norway. Applications should be marked IME-087-2007.   Closing date: 28 January 2008.
