Today's Watt's Up is the last issue before the winter break. Publication resumes on Jan. 5. May each and every member of the OSC community have a happy healthy holiday. See you in 2012! Annual Campaign Continues
Laser Tag Break
Need a little pre-finals fun? The UA chapter of the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science has organized a laser tag study break, 7–10 p.m. tonight. Meet SACNAS at Funtasticks. Got a question? Need a ride? Contact Jen Sepulveda. Demo Competition
The College of Optical Sciences is looking for unique new demonstrations for its outreach efforts. If you have a great demo — or even a great idea for one — you can enter the new OSC demo contest. Project proposals are required by Jan. 20, and detailed descriptions of accepted proposals must be completed by March 2,. Both are due to Trin Riojas at trin@optics.arizona.edu. First prize will be $150. Second and third prizes will be $100 and $50 respectively. Please contract Trin, Kevin Erwin (kevin@optics.arizona.edu) or Mike Nofziger (nofziger@optics.arizona.edu) with any questions. Entering the Reading Room
The Fred A. Hopf Reading Room is now protected by a CatCard reader after business hours. To enter, hold the card (picture-first) to the reader; you can open the door when the reader's light starts blinking. If your CatCard does not have a microchip above the photo, you will need to procure a new card from the UA CatCard Office. Volunteers Needed
The centennial Arizona Best Fest is making its way toward Tucson — and OSC needs your help! We're running a small booth on holography in the University's science pavilion, and undergraduate and graduate student volunteers would be much appreciated. Your meals will be comped, and you'll probably get a free T-shirt. Hard to beat that, eh? If you're interested in being a part of the Jan. 20–22 festivities, please contact Kristin Waller. ASAP Tutorial in January The Breault Research Organization is holding a special Introduction to ASAP tutorial, free for OSC faculty, graduate students and senior undergraduates, from Jan. 3 to Jan. 6. To register, please e-mail your contact information, including OSC affiliation, to sales@breault.com, or fax the registration form (PDF) to 520-721-9630. Please register immediately if interested; tutorials are limited to 16 participants.
