West Wing

Completed in 2006, the award-winning addition to the Meinel Building expands the College of Optical Sciences by 47,000 square feet. The facility, informally called the West Wing, includes an entry-level plaza landscaped with low-water-use flora, state-of-the-art teaching and research laboratories, an exhibit-intensive lobby, six floors of faculty offices and a large conference center.

Designed by the Phoenix firm of Richärd + Bauer Architecture and built by Lloyd Construction Company, the expansion has received local and national awards.

Designed to be both functional and beautiful, the new facility showcases exciting uses of light and incorporates unique features that are especially appropriate to the field of optics.

Naming Opportunities

The award-winning design includes a very public and very impressive donor wall. At appropriate locations within the new wing, plaques commemorate individuals and corporations that have generously sponsored those locations. The donor wall and the plaques ensure that future generations of students, faculty members and industry and government partners will be able to recognize and appreciate the generosity of the donors who contributed to the expansion.
