![]() Completed in 2006, a new high-technology optics facility expands Optical Sciences' capabilities by an additional 47,000 square feet. The new facility, informally called the West Wing, includes an entry-level plaza, state-of-the-art teaching and research laboratories, a new exhibit-intensive lobby, six floors of faculty offices, informal discussion areas, several conference rooms, and a large conference center.

Designed to be both functional and beautiful, the new facility’s public areas showcase exciting uses of light and incorporate unique features that are especially appropriate to the field of optics.
The award-winning design includes a very public and very impressive Optical Sciences donor wall in the lobby. At appropriate locations within the new wing, plaques commemorate individuals and corporations that have generously sponsored those locations. The donor wall and the plaques ensure that future generations of students, faculty members, and industry and government partners will be able to recognize and appreciate the generosity of the donors who contributed to the creation of the Meinel Optical Sciences expansion. Their donations will always be very greatly appreciated. |
