Dean's Office

The dean of the College of Optical Sciences is ultimately responsible for sound fiscal management and administration of approved University of Arizona policies with respect to personnel, academic programs and sponsored projects. Faculty governance is important to the administration of academic programs and policies, and faculty committees are established to recommend policy and procedures.

The special assistant to the dean is the key resource and liaison for the college's associate deans, division and unit directors, core group representatives, dean’s executive committee, faculty, staff and students.

Her areas of responsibility include:

  • Dean: schedules appointments and meetings; performs telephone triage; coordinates faculty reviews/annual report; serves as liaison to college executive committee and core group representatives; handles confidential correspondence and miscellaneous reports
  • Faculty Affairs: coordinates promotion and tenure and adjunct and joint faculty appointments
  • Faculty Recruitment: serves as liaison and coordinator to chair for college faculty searches
  • International Visa and Exchange Program: serves as college liaison to Office of International Faculty and Scholars in providing administrative support and guidance to international scholars and researchers with processing of petitions for J1 and H1 visas
  • Administrative Staff: manages administrative associates to include oversight of associated department units  
  • Colloquium Lecture Series: coordinates all aspects of weekly lecture series
  • Foundation Accounting: provides disbursements and gift reports
  • Special Events Coordination: coordinates symposia, special guest visits and dean-associated tours
  • Dean’s Management and Appointed Staff: provides periodic support to the director of finance and administration; human resources; development; alumni and external relations; and tech transfer
  • Personnel Administration: provides oversight with complex and technically difficult human resource matters and supervises human resource professionals; establishes basic operating policies and procedures; develops new or revised procedures and methods for college with dean’s oversight; supports areas of human resource administration with employment, compensation, classification, employee relations, etc.
