As an Applications Engineer at CVI Laser Optics, you will be part of a team challenged to maintain and grow business with customers that heavily utilize optical components and systems. Customers range from a variety of markets including, but not exclusive to, semiconductor, defense, laser machining, and biomedical.

You will be challenged technically as you learn about CVI Laser Optics’ manufacturing capabilities and processes and work hand in hand with engineers and technicians to enable you to collaborate with our customers’ engineers in creating manufacturable designs/prototypes. Commercially, you will work alongside an outside sales manager to analyze competitive situations and right price optical components and systems based on perceived value and market knowledge.
 
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Serve as primary contact person for assigned target accounts within designated market segment
  • Assist in developing and implementing market specific growth strategies and initiatives within target accounts which are aligned with annual operating plan
  • Develop accurate information concerning prospect and customer needs, and effectively communicate said information to company decision makers and team members.
  • Determine customers’ delivery, price, and quality expectations
  • Review quote requests with customers to insure specifications and tolerances are complete; be able to communicate said specifications to manufacturing to determine feasibility
  • Prepare quote packages including sales drawings, cost worksheets and acceptance test documentation
  • Develop and maintain successful and professional relationship with customer prospects. Ensure that all customer needs are satisfied and that the company maintains a reputation for customer satisfaction
  • Communicate company and product values to prospective customers via formal and informal presentations, meetings and communications.
  • Represent the company at trade shows, technical meetings, exhibitions and workshops. Develop and present technical papers at said events as required.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required based on company’s needs.
  • Travel estimated to be 20% of the year
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • B.S. in optical sciences/engineering or B.S. in engineering or physics with concentration/minor in optical sciences
  • Practical experience with high energy lasers, optical components, and/or opto-mechanical system assemblies.
  • Experience with any of the following design interfaces: SolidWorks, Zemax OpticStudio®, CODE V, and/or any other modeling or optical design software
  • This job position requires compliance with ITAR Regulations. Therefore, all employees working in this capacity must meet citizenship status. Per the CVI Laser, LLC Export Controls Policy and Procedure, the employee must be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Permanent Resident.
 
Prefered Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2 years of sales, manufacturing, and/or design experience within optics/photonics industry
  • Strong background and knowledge with the following design interfaces: SolidWorks and Zemax OpticStudio®
