Job Description: 

This job opening is for a Software Application Engineer in the Product Support Group supporting the LucidShape line of products. The product line includes LucidShape, LucidShape CAA, LucidDrive and LucidLite, hereafter referred to collectively as LucidShape. The LucidShape product line is a well-established and widely used suite of optical design software used in the design of advanced automotive exterior lighting such as headlights, daytime running lights and tail lights.
We are looking for a junior to mid-level optical engineer to provide technical outreach for our products to existing and potential customers. Duties will include: 

  1. Producing, editing and presenting talks on subjects related to LucidShape, such as overviews of the latest features, software strengths, novel use techniques, and engineering case studies, etc. Presentation forums will be at user-day events, individual customer sites, open webinars, and internal audiences.
  2. Conducting customer tours to visit existing customers and prospects primarily in North America. These visits are for presenting the latest developments and techniques for using LucidShape as well as for assisting customers with problems or questions they may have, and for gathering improvement requests and relaying those requests effectively to product management. Responsibility to include follow up and resolution of customer issues encountered during the visits.
  3. Working closely with a dedicated team of support engineers and marketing professionals to support new product launches with technical marketing materials, documentation, examples and instructional videos.
  4. Attending trade shows to assist in staffing the company booth and interacting with current and prospective customers.
  5. Conducting advanced training classes in the use of LucidShape to North American customers as well as Asian customers on an as-needed basis.
  6. Assisting in the production and submission of example models for the latest software versions.
  7. Producing raw video content for short videos describing new features and software techniques for posting on our customer support portal.
  8. Production of visually appealing images from the software as needed for use in marketing communications.
  9. Assisting both sales and technical support with technical expertise on an as-needed basis.

This job is intended to primarily support the North American market, however, LucidShape is used by customers in both Asia and Europe so some overseas travel to support those customers should be expected. Approximately 15% - 25% of the time will be spent on travel, typically in one- or two-week increments.

The ideal candidate will have either a Masters or a PhD. in optics or a related field. Experience with LucidShape is a plus. Experience in the automotive industry is also a plus. Given our diverse customer base, the ideal candidate must be able to quickly grasp technical issues for a wide variety of system types when meeting with customers on site. The candidate must have outstanding communications skills and be comfortable making technical presentation in front of large groups. They must also be willing and able to travel both domestically and overseas. The candidate must be able to communicate clearly in English both verbally and in written form.

Depending on experience, the job location can be in the Pasadena, CA or Detroit MI areas.
