INTERDISCIPLINARY OPTICS TENURE-TRACK POSITION

The Department of Physics and Optical Science invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in interdisciplinary optics to start in Fall 2014. Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree in optics, physics or a related field; an outstanding research record; and a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to, micro/nano-fabrication of photonic materials, structures or devices, nano-scale optical science, and biomedical optics. Extensive infrastructure (http://opticscenter.uncc.edu/services/facilities) exists to support research in these areas, and although not required, a candidate’s potential for collaborative utilization of these facilities is preferred.

UNC Charlotte is a doctoral, research-intensive university located in Charlotte, North Carolina, one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the US. The University is committed to fostering interdisciplinary research, and has established research centers in Optoelectronics and Optical Communications, Precision Metrology, Energy Production, Bioinformatics, and Biomedical Engineering. The Physics and Optical Science Department oversees interdisciplinary PhD and MS programs in Optical Science and Engineering, a MS program in Applied Physics, and is in the process of developing a PhD program in Applied Physics. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is strongly committed to hiring faculty who will support its interdisciplinary research and teaching programs. In addition to the optics faculty member, the College plans to hire a chemist to support nanoscale science initiatives.
