About You:

You’re an experienced vision scientist, physicist, or engineer with expertise in and a passion for AR display metrology. You are looking for an opportunity to draw upon your experience to create innovative optical, mechanical, and software solutions to tackle the hardest test problems in the AR display industry. You thrive in collaborative team environments and enjoy opportunities to contribute your ideas. You are self-motivated to tackle challenging problems.

What You’ll Do:

In addition to the hands-on application of your skills in the lab, you will provide guidance to the teams looking to characterize the display performance of unique AR display product concepts.  Your expertise will play an important role in supporting the development of novel architectures.  In addition, you will enable our NPI and Manufacturing groups to deploy world-class measurement and calibration solutions for mass production.   

  • Within 20 days you will:
    • Develop familiarity with North’s philosophy, AR display performance requirements, and existing measurement methods.
    • Contribute to on-going metrology tasks in support of ongoing manufacturing and product development activities
    • Develop a good understanding of the display architecture that makes up the company’s products, both current, and next-generation.
  • Within 40 days you will:
    • Apply optical principles, and work with software engineers, to develop new metrology solutions to validate display performance metrics 
    • Iterate on retinal display luminance and brightness test methodologies for further performance and cost-effectiveness.
    • Support the development of the supplier base for our next-gen display metrology instruments.
    • Analyze display performance measurements for correlation with design models
    • Consult with fixture development teams to advise on optical metrology issues
  • Within 60 days:
    • You are the “go-to” expert for retinal display metrology, you are guiding the methods used by Advanced R&D for characterizing new technology
    • The manufacturing and NPI teams no longer need your dedicated support for in-factory display testing.
    • Your passion for best in class near-eye display experiences is driving you to engineer and further optimize metrology methods and advocate for product development priorities to tackle big problems.

Bonus points for:

  • An understanding of the physiology of human perception
  • Analytical understanding of vision correction optics
  • Experience data crunching and modeling with Python
  • Experience in working in and supporting test engineering for mass production
  • A love of robotics and hardware and software automation
