Job description:
We are seeking an ELECTRO-OPTICAL ADVANCED WINDOWS SYSTEMS ENGINEER to provide system engineering and technical support to novel and challenging projects of varying size throughout their life cycle stages. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of Advanced Window designs to support the world of EO intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions on a variety of DoD platforms. These platforms present unique challenges that include design for the harsh environments of high-speed airborne as well as ground platform applications, operation through extreme EMI/EMC environments, and implementations across a variety of sizes and complex geometries.
There are no direct reports in this position; however, the Advanced Windows Systems Engineer may be responsible for directing a small project engineering team in the development of electro-optical sensor windows. Duties include: 

  • Review and evaluation of customer requirement documents.
  • Interface with customers through the product life cycle from validation of design requirements definition, support of platform conceptual interface development, sell-off, and post-delivery support.
  • Work with program teams, including other engineering disciplines, to develop window system design concepts, define and perform trades, develop optical system performance models, and decompose and flow down system requirements to lower level assemblies and components.
  • Develop specifications, technical budgets, verification plans and matrices, and test plans.
  • Prepare and present material for formal design reviews and customer meetings, support system level testing, and generate final end item data package materials to demonstrate compliance to customer and internal requirements.
  • Provide technical support to proposal activities.

Education / Certifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field with a minimum of 2-5 years of related experience required. Master’s degree with a minimum of 1-3 years of related experience preferred.

Experience / Qualifications:

  • Background in optical systems engineering and electro-optical/windows performance modeling, design, and testing; strength in mathematical and modeling skills are preferred.
  • Knowledge of window manufacturing techniques and processes including substrates, coatings, mounting, and bonding.
  • Experience in the modelling and analysis of complex window assemblies including EM and RF shielding, polarization, laser damage, wave front assessment, and transmission characteristics.
  • An understanding optical metrology techniques and interpretation including interferometry, spectrophotometry, and ellipsometry.
  • Ability to assess window assembly performance in extreme natural and manmade environments for land, sea, airborne, and space based applications.
  • Experience in systems engineering of complex window assemblies throughout the product life cycle including the requirements validation, decomposition, and verification.
  • Experience writing requirements specifications, verification plans, analysis plans, test plans, and verification reports.
  • Experience writing technical reports and making technical presentations. Experience in DoD airborne and ground systems, mission analysis, and government military program contracts is preferred.
