Job Description: 

Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking an Electro-optical Engineer to work in the area of optical sensors and instrument design.  Scientific and engineering capabilities must span broad ranges of disciplines.  Must be able to translate system needs into requirements and coordinate the technical aspects of design, fabrication, testing, and integration of optical sensors to meet these requirements.  Includes detailed design and evaluation of assigned projects.

Min. Requirements:

  • MS in Optics, Engineering, Physics or related field. 
  • Familiarity with optical alignment and optical testing, focal plane arrays, radiometers, and interferometers. 
  • Ability to work as part of a team, but must also be a self-starter and be able to work independently. 
  • Must be US. citizen with the ability to obtain a DoD security clearance.

Desired Capabilities:

  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Applied Optics, Optics or related field. 
  • Experience with infrared systems and optical infrared detectors.
  • Experience with cryogenic and vacuum equipment.
  • Experience with Fourier spectroscopy equipment.
  • Previous system level experience designing state-of-the-art infrared sensors.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks in parallel.
