Responsibilities

The Visible and Infrared Sensor Systems Department supports the design and deployment of electro-optical sensor payloads for civil, commercial, and national space systems. Our activities include: concept definition and mission-driven design-synthesis of electro-optical space sensors; detailed characterization and performance analysis of visible and infrared electro-optical detector arrays; design, assembly, integration, and test of ground and airborne prototype sensors; high-fidelity modeling and simulation of the performance of both individual electro-optical sensors and configurations of space and ground sensors. This posting is targeted for an electro-optical sensor analyst.

Key Functions

  • Provide oversight, guidance, and technical advice on customer electro-optical projects in the areas of overhead persistent infrared (OPIR) and earth remote sensing.
  • Model earth/deep-space backgrounds and targets for non-imaging point source detection systems; analyze the performance of electro-optical sensor constellations.
  • Provide performance analysis of electro-optical sensor concepts for developing technical performance requirements and assessing proposed designs.
  • Perform data analysis of simulated and real electro-optical sensor data.
  • Work with other members of the technical staff to solve multi-disciplinary problems.
  • This position is in El Segundo, California.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in astronomy, physics, optics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience post - Bachelor's degree.
  • Strong analytic problem-solving skills relating to the performance of visible and infrared sensors including: radiometry, radiative transfer, detection theory, and visible and infrared backgrounds.
  • Experience using common engineering applications environments such as Matlab or IDL to analyze data and implement numerical solutions to problems in remote sensing.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have or be able to obtain an SCI security clearance (US Citizenship Required).
  • Local travel to off-site meetings and air travel to Aerospace or customer office locations.
  • Ability to communicate with individuals and groups in person, by phone, and telepresence.

Required for consideration as an Engineering Specialist (In Addition)

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience post Bachelor's degree.
  • Must have a current and active Top Secret SCI clearance issued by the US Government.
  • Demonstrated leadership of small technical teams. 

Preferred

  • An advanced degree.
  • Strong computer programming skills in a compiled computer language such as C, C++, Fortran, or similar.
  • Experience analyzing OPIR data from one or more sensors and/or experience developing target detection models.
