Description

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems sector is seeking a Fiber Laser Engineer 4 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.

As industry pioneers, the Laser and Sensor Subsystems Department continues to provide enabling State-of-the-Art

technology engineered into national security defense systems and civilian science and environmental missions. We provide integrated system expertise for our primary products which include high-energy and high-peak power laser subsystems beam control subsystems and optical subsystems, from component through system integration.

The fiber laser engineer will be responsible for designing, integrating and testing various subsystems of high power fiber lasers and related optical assemblies. Engineers are required to have a fundamental understanding of lasers & amplifiers, optics, interferometers and typical optical diagnostics setups as well as alignment techniques. Candidates must have experience with fiber lasers and amplifiers with preferred experience on fiber systems operating at high powers with excellent beam quality. Candidates are also required to have hands on skills that include fiber splicing and fiber handling techniques. Familiarity with RF diagnostics equipment and computer interfacing are also desired.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Fiber laser modeling and design

• Integration & test of pulsed and CW fiber products and solid state lasers

• Laser product development and productization of technology

• Regular interaction with engineering teams

• Guiding the successful completion of major programs and may function in a project leadership role

• Applying extensive technical expertise, with full knowledge of other related disciplines

• Developing technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.

Qualifications

Basic Qualification: PhD in fiber/solid state laser related field (physics,optical science, electrical engineering) with 4+ years of related work experience; Extensive experience working with fiber lasers and amplifiers; Optical fiber handling/splicing/packaging experience. Familiarity with vendors for optical and fiber-related components; Ability to independently set up and perform
experiments; Ablility to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings. US citizenship and the ability to obtain a security clearance is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential
consideration:
• Experience with fiber laser and amplifiers operating at
high powers with excellent beam quality
• Experience with technical writing and proposal efforts
• Position prefers a candidate with a current Secret
Clearance
