Description

Optical engineer needed to perform optical design and analysis tasks over a broad range of optical systems, including high energy laser beam train, beam control, targeting-and-tracking for directed-energy systems, fiber-laser, ladar and lasercom systems. Successful candidate must have broad knowledge of optical system and component design, specification, and performance characteristics. Must be able to de-convolve system-level optical and opto-mechanical requirements, and flow down performance requirements to subsystems and individual components. Candidate will work w/ multi-disciplinary design teams to generate alternate designs, and must be able to perform detailed trade studies of the resulting designs to optimize performance while mitigating risks. Engineer must assess design impacts to system performance, operations, maintainability and reliability need as part of the trade studies. Knowledge of flight hardware environmental specifications, testing requirements and methodologies, and integration processes is desirable, as is prior experience in the design of directed energy and beam control subsytems and components.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications: Candidate must have minimum of 14+ Years with Bachelors in Science; 12+ Years with Masters; 9+ Years with PhD. Candidate should have a background in geometrical and physical optics analysis, tolerancing, and optical engineering design, including use of design tools such as Zemax and/or Code V. Experience with fiber optics, optical alignments and systems integration and test is highly desired.
