Position Highlights The College of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona is proud to announce a faculty search for the J. W. and H. M. Goodman Endowed Chair in Optical Sciences. The College of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona is world renowned for its excellent breadth and depth of research and education in Optical Sciences. Optics resides at the core of many critical science and technology fields, from space technology to quantum computing. One of the research initiatives in Arizona’s new strategic plan is Humans, Society, and Intelligent Systems. We believe optics is the core enabler for developing the next-generation intelligent systems that will have beneficial societal impacts to humankind, and we believe that a close collaboration among scientists crossing the traditional disciplines such as optical sciences, computer sciences, vision sciences, electrical and computer engineering, and psychology and cognitive sciences will accelerate the path to impact and success. The College is seeking to create excellence in the area of intelligent optical systems and establish a hub for scientists of all disciplines to collaborate and innovate. Specific fields of interest for this Chair position include: augmented and virtual reality systems and applications, autonomous systems, multi-modality imaging systems, human-computer interaction and perception with intelligent systems, as well as adaptive imaging, display and photonic systems. The successful candidate will find synergy and collaboration with current Optical Sciences research programs and other disciplines on campus. Some of the ongoing research areas include virtual and augmented reality technology, imaging sciences, imaging sensing, optical engineering, photonics and quantum technologies, and biomedical imaging. Duties & Responsibilities This tenure/tenure-track position anticipates a candidate with demonstrated strength in his or her field of research, with duties including:

Applicants should have a proven track record of both teaching and research, including a clear potential to continue or establish a substantial research program in his or her field of interest that is capable of attracting program funding from industry and/or government sources. For private sector or government laboratory applicants, lack of a proven teaching and funded-research record could be remedied with other related credentials, while requiring strong communications skills and a demonstrated history of technical depth and leadership. We seek an individual who is able to work with and attract a diverse group of undergraduate and graduate students and colleagues. Development of novel courses pertaining to the candidate’s area of expertise, as well as exceptional teaching of our core curriculum is expected.

Minimum Qualifications  This position is viewed as a senior-level position and the candidate’s experience must be commensurate. Examples include current Associate Professors, Full Professors, or equivalent positions at non-academic institutions.  Assistant Professors who have demonstrated outstanding success are also invited to apply.
Preferred Qualifications Extensive experience in industrial or national lab settings is beneficial.
