Lead Optical Systems Engineer | FARO

FARO is seeking a Lead Optical Systems Engineer for our Research & Development team in the Exton, PA area. 

Education and Experience:

• MS or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering , Physics, Optical Engineering
• >5 years of work experience

Technical Skills:

• Design of LIDAR or other Laser distance measurement systems
• Familiar with RF Photonics and fiber optic communications
• Technical knowledge in optics and electro-optic devices:  laser diodes, free space optics, fiber optics, and Gaussian beam propagation
• Electronics for use in opto-electronics: laser diode drive and modulation, signal conditioning, data acquisition, transimpedance amplifiers, etc. 
• Basic knowledge of ZEMAX or similar ray tracing software (Geometric optical design)
• Extensive laboratory experience with electro-optic devices
• Prior experience or interest in project management
• Matlab and or Labview 

Responsibilities:

1. Lead the architectural design of laser based electro-optical sub-assemblies for use in FARO metrology products.
2. Lead the design team in the detailed design, build, and test of laser distance measurement devices that include optics, lasers, electronics, detectors, firmware, and opto-mechanics.
3. Maintain project schedules, task lists, and target specifications.
4. Other Optical Systems Engineering responsibilities may be added as business conditions arise.
