Job Description: 

The Department of Physics and Optical Engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank starting August 15, 2019. Candidates may be considered for higher rank commensurate with extent of experience. Required qualifications include an earned PhD in optics, optical engineering or closely related area and evidence of, or demonstrated potential for, excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. All but dissertation or near degree completion considered if in hand by start date.

The department offers a B.S. degree in physics, B.S. degree in engineering physics and a B.S. and M.S. in optical engineering. The successful candidate will be expected to teach lower division courses in physics and lower and upper division courses in optics including engineering design. The department operates modern laboratories that support teaching and active research, design and development projects at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Areas of technical interest include lasers, optical fibers, non-linear optics, lens design, holography, photorefractive materials, optical metrology, semiconductors, and nano-technology and participates in several innovative curriculum experiments and educational development. The Center for Applied Optics Studies provides exceptional opportunities for professional development and interaction with industry.
