Job Description:

Apple is looking for a world class engineer that can help create the next generation display technology. This individual will serve as a focal point in managing technology development and driving the implementation of critical technology platforms to improve display optical performance. You will contribute independently and work with both Apple suppliers and internal cross-functional teams to define product specification, understand design tolerance and sensitivities, optimize system level performance base on well-defined and achievable metrics, and validate system designs via engineering builds and DOEs. A successful candidate should also be a good communicator and work well with people from different disciplines. You will work with a diverse audience that may include optical engineers, mechanical engineers, chemists, physicists and product design engineers. This position will initially focus on complex illumination system modeling to assist in the design of the optics associated with a new display platform. It will be a plus for the individual to have strong background in geometrical and illumination optics and experience with thin film coating and non-sequential raytrace. We work at a fast pace and requires everyone to be highly self-motivated and quantitative in problem solving.

Key Qualifications

  • Solid fundamental in optical engineering, system analysis and design
  • In-depth knowledge of geometrical optics, imaging system, and luminaire design a strong plus
  • Experience in illumination system design and non-sequential raytrace is preferred; strong experience in lens design also considered
  • Proficiency in a optical simulation tool such as ZEMAX or LightTools, and data analysis software such as Matlab
  • Demonstrated ability to use analytical thinking and systematic method to conduct investigation for problem solving
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and teamwork skills required
