The primary role of this position is to provide optical design and analysis on aerospace programs. These programs include airborne and space imaging systems ranging from UV to LWIR regions of the spectrum.

The optical designer will be part of a highly skilled technical team. The candidate will be expected to provide support to optical engineering products such as:

• Optical designs of advanced telescopes, calibrators, and unique optical test-sets

• Optical budgets and sensitivities including wavefront error, MTF, line of sight, and throughput.

• Optical requirements and specifications for imaging systems, assemblies, component drawings, coatings, etc.
• Tolerances for manufacturing and optical alignments.

• Optical modeling, analysis and metrology support during Assembly, Integration, and Test.

• Other unique modeling, such as: spectral tuning/splitting, polarization, phase retrieval, image simulation, etc.

• Development of optical technologies and architectural concepts to support the company’s current and new business opportunities.

This position works under general direction of the Lead Systems Engineer.

Optical Design Engineer

Work is closely supervised. Follows established procedures and specific, detailed instructions and/or guidance from more senior functional staff.

Required Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Image Science.

• 3-6 years of working experience in optical engineering or MS degree with 0-4 years’ relevant experience.

• Strong working skills with CodeV and/or Zemax software tools.

• A team player with excellent communication, technical writing and presentation skills.

• Able to obtain a clearance.

Desired Skills:

• 5 years’ experience in the Aerospace/Defense industry

• TS/SCI Clearance

• Working knowledge of FRED, ASAP, MATLAB

• Exposure to Systems Engineering standards, processes and disciplines
