Fairport, NY Job Description:
Moondog Optics, Inc. is a young and growing company that specializes in designing optical & opto-mechanical systems for consumer, medical, and cinematography products. We have a unique opportunity for an experienced Optical Design Engineer in our Fairport, NY office. This opening is for a full time position.
The ideal candidate will have the following:
- Optical design experience for mobile camera modules, pico projectors, virtual/augmented reality systems, cinema cameras, and/or medical devices.
- Fluency with Zemax and/or Code V.
- Experience with tolerancing and stray light analysis.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a strong core technical team.
- Experience working directly with customers in-person and in web/conference calls, including preparing and presenting design reviews.
- Basic understanding of opto-mechanical design principles. Ability to work effectively with opto-mechanical designers.
Additional background that would be beneficial:
- Experience/interest in new business development.
- Experience working with US, European, and Asian suppliers of optical and opto-mechanical components/systems.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with lab testing such as MTF, stray light, transmission, etc.
- Experience writing Zemax and/or Code V macros, DLLs, and/or custom Python routines for advanced analysis of optical systems.
- Optical design experience with injection molded polymer aspheres and/or compression molded glass aspheres.
Job Requirements:
- 10+ years optical design experience in a product development environment.
- B.S. degree in Optics, Physics, or related discipline. M.S. preferred.
- A solid understanding of manufacturing state-of-the-art for glass and plastic optics.
- Being a creative self-starter, capable of developing ideas and working with little supervision.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
- An openness to domestic and international travel.
