Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities:

  • Experimentally bring up and conceptually prove Infinera’s next-generation coherent optical transponder at early development or prototype stage
  • Interface with optical and DSP design teams to provide feedback on prototype design variants throughout the product development phase
  • Assist test capability and test set development teams in guiding calibration and performance test needs in modular test programs for Infinera's next-generation coherent optical transport system

Education & Experience Necessary for Success:

  • M.S. or PhD in optical fiber communication, or optoelectronic/photonic device physics, or coherent communication systems
  • Direct experience in design, test, or control of optical components or modules
  • Fundamental understanding of coherent optical transport systems, modules, and components, including optical transceivers, tunable laser, MZ modulators, photo detector, trans-impedance amplifier, and EDFAs, coherent digital signal processing
  • Hands-on experience with high-speed optical and electrical test and measurement equipment
  • Software skills with experience in VB.net or C++ object-oriented or Python programming in an embedded processor environment
  • Experience with hardware feedback loops for control of optical components or modules
  • Knowledge in design of experiment, data collection, statistical analysis of test data, and understand equipment measurement capabilities to establish required test specifications
  • Experience with long haul optical link design including power budgets, OSNR calculations, fiber penalties (CD, PMD, nonlinearities), and critical components specifications
