JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Optical Engineer – Engineering Leadership Program (ELP)
Department: Engineering
Reports To: ELP Manager
Classification: Exempt

Brief Summary:
The Engineering Leadership Program (ELP) is a rotation program designed to cultivate our next generation of technical leaders and individual contributors. Through the program the individual will gain a broad picture of the Edmund Optics culture, our customers, and a variety of departments’ functions, management staff, and specific business topics through specially formulated seminars. This individual will move through several departments at Edmund Optics (EO) working side-by-side with our optical designers, solutions engineers, manufacturing engineers, project managers, etc. This job is ideally suited to the motivated engineer/scientist who wants to experience a wide range of engineering and business disciplines and take on key challenges strategic to the corporation.

Program Features, Functions, & Requirements:
• Kick start career development with a customized 2-3 year program comprising of 6-9 month department rotations structured to match the engineer’s skills and interests to the company’s needs
• Receive coaching, mentoring, and training from some of our best EO leaders
• Assist Sales and Marketing teams with customer applications
• Recognize and develop significant sales opportunities with Sales Teams
• Research, define, and test catalog products with Product Line Managers
• Specify and manage catalog and custom product life cycle with Project Managers
• Design optical products and optomechanical systems with the Design Team
• Develop product specific demonstrations for industry trade shows
• Attend trade shows to demonstrate and support the latest in EO products
• Write technical articles for the website and trade journals
• Develop and teach internal training seminars
• Visit customers with Sales teams
• Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience with optical and mechanical design software a plus
• US citizenship or permanent residency (green card) required
• Excellent telephone, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Strong organization skills – ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
