Job Summary
Develops optical based components for use in laser or optical sensing applications. The Optical Engineer will support product development efforts and coating design.
Essential Duties
- Design / specify optical systems and components
- Will serve as a coating design expert for product development activity as well as production support
- Performs risk analysis
- Performs detailed optical design, optical component layout, and ray tracing for new or improved optical subsystems
- Performs optical-tolerance analysis at system and subsystem level
- Conduct optical modeling (ZEMAX, Comsol, optics analysis software, etc.)
- Design / specify coatings to meet various customer requirements
- Design failure-mode/error analysis
Other Responsibilities
- Develop specifications and proposals
- Commitment to ISO procedures and policies
- Provide direction to technical staff involved in a project
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Optical Engineering or Physics (Optics emphasis preferred)
- Strong knowledge of laser optics (fiber and bulk) and physics
- Operate low and high power free space and fiber lasers preferred
- Familiarity with LEAN principles preferred
- Domestic and International travel required up to 5%
- Familiarity with optical modeling using Zemax preferred
- Familiarity with optical materials and coating design/manufacturing
