Looking for an opportunity learn and strengthen your optical design skills? Want an internship that has a meaningful impact on engineers and scientists in industry? Come spend the summer with an exceptional team of engineers from whom you can glean all kinds of knowledge and insight into optical design!

As an optical engineering intern with Zemax, you’ll start your summer by attending our introductory course OpticStudio 101: Optical System Design, where you will learn all the tips & tricks you need to get you fully up to speed with the latest release of OpticStudio. Following this, you’ll be assigned a design project (typically 2 per intern), where you’ll start with a basic specification and references and be asked to fully design a system that meets those specifications, such as a Heads-Up Display, Short-Throw Projector, or Confocal Fluorescent Microscope. You'll have lots of resources around you to answer any questions, challenge you on your approach, and ensure successful completion of your work. Once you’ve completed your design, you’ll have a design review where you present your work to the team. Each project culminates in live webinar and a Knowledge Base article on our website for Zemax customers who want to learn how to build a system like yours!

In addition, the ideal candidate will:

  • Be in Junior year of an Optics or Physics undergraduate program
  • Have completed Geometrical Optics or related coursework
  • Have exceptional written and oral communication skills

This position includes a competitive salary and relocation allowance. You must be eligible to work in the US to apply. (Student visas are okay!)
