The product development responsibilities of the Optical Engineer include cost, material and manufacturing process analysis and the identification and evaluation of alternatives, design for UL/CUL/CSA and other regulatory compliance, tooling estimation, and rapid product realization. The candidate must be committed to meet tight deadlines and meeting customer requirements, highly motivated with a can-do attitude.

• Design of LED and HID optical systems, sub assemblies, and components – reflectors and lens design
• Perform photometric and other qualification tests to meet optical, electrical, thermal, and various other standards
• Test specific component performance
• Design of experiments for new technology
• Advise on new optical technology
• Specify test equipment, procedures, and recommend system improvements
• Generate engineering documentation such as design reports, BOM's, qualification reports, simulation, etc
• Transfer product concepts and designs to manufacturing
• Develop rapid prototypes of concepts
• Work creatively, efficiently, and quickly with cross functional teams, external vendors, Marketing, and manufacturing groups
• Work with quality control on designed components
Basic Qualifications (Including Educational Requirements) Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Physics from an accredited institution required
• 5 years minimum experience in lighting design
• Minimum 3 years in optical design and analysis
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Minimum 3 years design experience with LED lighting
• Experience using SAP for PLM

Position Criteria:
• Must be proficient in an optical CAD; such as Light Tools
• SolidWorks 3D modeling capability or similar tool
• Strong written and presentation skills – English required
• Occasional travel will be required
