Job Description: 

Honeywell Automated Control Solutions is looking for a highly qualified Optical Research Engineer to apply their knowledge base to unique industrial applications. The ideal candidate will have a broad understanding of optical principles and standard techniques, and have intimate knowledge of optical design tools and optical hardware components.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Apply previous experience in optical design and testing to develop and perform experiments in a laboratory environment
  • In addition to supporting ongoing efforts, you will be expected to assist in developing new concepts, write project proposals with cost estimates, and develop new technologies for future products
  • Understand customer requirements and translate into device and product requirements


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering, physics or related field
  • 5+ years of work experience (graduate experience inclusive) with optical system design and with testing of optical systems
  • Due to security requirements, must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in optical science, optical engineering, or related field
  • Expertise with optical design software in either CodeV or Zemax for both imaging and non-imaging systems
  • Experience with opto-mechanical design and modeling. Knowledge of mechanical software such as Solidworks or Creo Parametric (i.e., Pro-E) is a plus
  • Strong understanding of geometric and physical optics theory (e.g. Gaussian beam propagation and laser physics), optical components, and standard experimental practices and techniques
  • Working knowledge of light detection components
  • Experience with custom lens design specification, including diffractive, spherical and aspherical elements
  • Hands-on test and measurement of optical components experience
  •  Knowledge of opto-electronic devices, including photo-detectors and lasers
  • As a top candidate, you will have strong organizational, leadership skills, and be good at working and negotiating with customers and partners 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Experienced in writing proposals and presenting in front of customers
