Brief Description:

The Nest Hardware team is responsible for everything inside our high-volume, low-power, high-quality consumer electronic products. Starting at concept creation, our team architects, designs, develops, validates and continues to support the product through end of life.  The small teams require each member to have a significant impact on the final product, and our interns are no exception. Past interns were critical to successfully bringing our products to market, and we want our future interns to leave the same footprint.

The work:

  • Research and design an optical based sensor for use in our products.
  • Prototype, debug, and validate this design, providing proof of concept for taking this sensor into mass production.
  • Work with the sensor team on various other projects in various products that are currently entering mass production.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related technical field

Preferred qualifications:

  • Electrical engineering fundamentals
  • Experience designing and prototyping using CAD software
  • Strong data processing skills
  • Experience working with spectrometer or camera systems
  • Hands-on lab experience (soldering, oscilloscopes, data acquisition)
  • Signal processing background a plus
  • Optical testing background a plus
  • Prototyping bringup / hobbyists / robotics experience a plus
