Over the past five years we have created a robust optical systems business focused on a variety of applications including eUV metrology, near-to-eye optical displays, LIDAR systems, laser systems, astronomical telescopes and instruments, illumination optics and spotting scopes. Our core competencies include optical systems design and analysis, opto-mechanical design, analysis and optimization, and build & test.

Going forward, we are building on this success by adding a dedicated sales professional to help drive growth and diversification. We seek candidates that have direct experience selling optical and/or related systems to join us in our San Diego office.


This position will report to the CEO and be accountable to the Directors of Engineering, Optical Systems. The successful candidate will initiate and drive all phases of the business-development life cycle, including marketing, opportunity generation, qualification, close, and post-close debrief. 


  • Build and establish a wide network of clients and partners across the broader optical systems community leveraging current personal relationships, existing Quartus relationships, and creating new relationships.
  • Identify current and future engineering service requirements by establishing personal rapport with clients and others who understand engineering service requirements.  
  • Provide engineering service and technical information by answering client questions and requests.
  • Plan and organize sales call schedule including advance research regarding individual clients and unique requirements.
  • Understand Quartus’ value proposition and differentiators.  Collaborate with leadership to enhance these from the perspective of current and future clients.
  • Support all phases of the capture process in coordination with technical staff.
  • Prepare sales reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing sales information and engineering and application trends.  
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies, etc.


  • Required:  Direct experience marketing and selling Optical Systems and/or related systems 
  • Required:  BS Engineering – Optical, Mechanical, Electrical or equivalent work experience
  • MS or MBA considered a plus
  • Seasoned, proven professional with a minimum 5 years of sales experience
  • Demonstrated success generating new leads achieved through researching and qualifying opportunities
  • Demonstrated success with relationship-based, network-based sales approach
  • Demonstrated ability to build client rapport, debate constructively possible solution sets, challenge client thinking, create tailored solutions, and drive closure
  • Experienced with CRM and leveraging of social network
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills


  • Successful candidates will be highly collaborative, disciplined and focused, with strong listening skills and the proven ability to leverage relationships.
  • Travel required


  • Base salary, plus sales bonus plan
