Job Description: 

Sensing is a key ingredient in developing great virtual reality technology. We are looking for an exceptional Opto-Mechanical engineer with a proven track record in designing imaging systems for mass production. The ideal candidate will have experience in consumer electronics and taking systems from prototyping to mass production. This position is part of the Oculus product design team and includes close collaboration with mechanical and optical designers. You'll be part of a team solving challenges at the forefront of computer vision, transforming virtual reality from dream to reality. We're looking for a creative engineer, passionate about solving hard and exciting computer vision and sensing problems.


  • Research and prototype optical and mechanical designs for new sensing technologies
  • Participate in cutting edge research in computer vision
  • Work closely with optical, mechanical, electrical and computer vision engineers to fulfill project requirements
  • Support the transition from prototyping to mass production, working with Asia-based contract manufacturers
  • Conduct DFM, vibration and thermal validation as well as finite element analysis (FEA) for system optimization and quality


  • BS Mechanical engineering, MS preferred
  • 5+ years of experience as an Opto-Mechanical engineer designing imaging systems and shipping mass-produced consumer optical products
  • Experience applying DFM and DFA best practices to injection-molded elements and plastic lenses
  • System validation and optimization experience, utilizing FEA
  • Hands-on practical prototyping experience
  • Experience in micro-optics design, optical assembly, light source assembly and active alignment
  • Experience in setting up optical labs
  • Collaborative, positive, team-oriented mindset
  • Mobile camera design experience preferred
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally (up to 15%)
