The Opto-mechanical Engineer will develop precision opto-mechanical designs for semiconductor lithography, laser annealing and interferometer-based inspection equipment. Work in a medium sized, technology driven company with full responsibility for design projects from concept to validation with opportunities to develop skills in design, assembly, alignment, characterization and system integration of large and small-scale precision optical systems.


  • Compile requirements, analyze concepts, conceive designs, and build and testprototypes.
  • Create parts drawings, assembly drawings, and models inSolidWorks.
  • Prepare and deliver design reviews, complete bills of materials, and execute engineering change orders to releaseassemblies.
  • Work with electrical, optical, and software engineers to integrate subsystems intodesigns.
  • Perform stress and thermal analysis and experiments to quantify and minimize errorsources.
  • Interface with suppliers or outside engineering groups when needed to assure successful integration.


Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years or a Master's with 3 years of experience or a PhD with one year of related experience designing opto-mechanical systems. Must have knowledge of or formal course work in fundamental optical principles.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must have experience with opto-mechanical system design, precision machine design principles and design for thermalstability
  • Proficiency with FEA for stress and thermalanalysis
  • Must be familiar with geometric dimensioning andtolerancing
  • Experience with design of semiconductor capital equipment is desirable but notrequired
  • Initiative and problem-solvingskills
  • Attention todetail
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts and resultsclearly
