Function of Position
The Engineering Technology Department is seeking applicants for a full time tenure-track teaching position in the Optical Systems Technology program beginning Fall Semester 2014 (negotiable starting date). Optics Systems Technology is housed in MCC’s Engineering Technologies Department along with Construction Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Technology.

The department welcomes candidates who are committed to MCC’s mission of success and academic excellence. In addition to excellent academic credentials, candidates should have a desire to work in a diverse and dynamic environment, be able to demonstrate a love of teaching, have a desire to create partnerships with local industry, and have the ability to design innovative learning experiences to explain technology concepts. Highly motivated candidates should also demonstrate a passion for lifelong learning and continuous improvement in the classroom.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities
The successful candidate will, in addition to teaching responsibilities, be willing to assist the Optics Program Coordinator. These responsibilities include working with the local optics industry to promote and build enrollments in the program, master schedule management, student recruitment, industry collaboration, strengthening existing and creating new transfer and articulation agreements, career placement, and working as a liaison for workforce development training opportunities. These additional responsibilities would also be shared with administrative personnel of the College.
• Responsible for adhering to the College Code of Conduct.
• Responsible for contributing to and maintaining an inclusive and collaborative College environment.
• Responsible for maintaining technological competencies utilized by the College.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Optical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering/Technology, Imaging Science, or related technical discipline from an accredited institution, or comparable industrial experience in the optics or electronics industry.
• Industrial experience in the areas of optical manufacturing and testing.
• Evidence of effective communication (interpersonal, speaking, and writing) skills.
• Experience in the successful design or implementation of student recruitment and retention strategies or comparable experience (such as marketing new products) within business or industry.
• Evidence of effective service to an academic department, division, or college in a previous teaching position or comparable experience (such as involvement in product design/testing/marketing) within business or industry.
• Evidence of a commitment to continued professional growth.
• Commitment to supporting an inclusive environment on campus.
• Evidence of respect for and understanding of people with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs.
• Maintains appropriate academic standards.
• Evidence of commitment to the philosophy of a comprehensive community college.

Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s degree in Optical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering/Technology, Imaging Science, or related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
• Experience with the use of programmable logic controllers and/or automated systems in industrial production applications.
• Knowledge of, or experience in, implementing a variety of teaching strategies along with teaching experience.
• Awareness of the potential value of technology as a tool for teaching writing and research.
• Experience and/or interest in teaching online courses desirable.
• Ability to develop collaborative, multidisciplinary relationships that bridge traditional educational boundaries.
• Understanding of the integrated nature of technology and the ability to translate knowledge into relevant curriculum.
• Commitment to supporting an inclusive environment on campus.
• Evidence of respect for and understanding of people with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs.
