in
Caltech
Space
Structures
Laboratory
We
are
currently
developing
ultra-­‐thin
active
mirror
technologies
for
future
space
telescopes,
with
a
focus
on
new
concepts
for
mirrors,
novel
manufacturing
techniques,
formulation
of
low-­‐cost
metrology
concepts,
hardware
and
software
implementations,
experimental
demonstration
and
validation.
Much
of
our
current
work
is
focused
on
the
completion
of
the
telescope
payload
for
the
AAReST
(Autonomous
Assembly
of
a
Reconfigurable
Space
Telescope)
flight
mission,
due
to
be
launched
in
2016.

The
postdoc
will
be
responsible
for
the
optical
aspects
of
AAReST
and
other
related
activities.
Strong
experimental
skills
in
optical
testing
are
needed,
including:
optical
set-­‐up
for
mirror
performance
characterization,
integration
and
testing
of
optical
and
electronics
breadboards,
adaptive
optics,
co-­‐
phasing
of
active
mirror
segments.
In
addition,
experience
in
mirror
control
(hardware
and
software)
will
be
helpful.
