Job Description:

A position for a postdoctoral research fellow is available immediately in the Advanced Microscopy Group of Dr Charles Lin at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital. This appointment will be at the rank of postdoctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School. It will be highly interdisciplinary, spanning all aspects of system integration, including developing and testing of optical and electronic designs, programming and data analysis.

We have recently started an NIH-funded project that seeks to develop a method to detect brain inflammation by eye imaging. Together with the project’s PI, Dr Clemens Alt, the postdoctoral fellow will develop and test an adaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscope for imaging the human retina. The goal of this research position is to drive the translation of this method into the clinical setting and investigate if the mechanism discovered in mouse models holds up in patients.

We are seeking a highly motivated, creative candidate with a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering or related fields, with a strong background in electronics, optics, and low-level programming (objective C, C++). Prior experience with designing optical instruments, in particular adaptive optics, including setting up system electronics and programming, is highly desired.

Interested candidates should send their CV, a cover letter describing training and research experience, and the names and contact information of two references to Dr. Clemens Alt (alt@helix.mgh.harvard.edu) with the subject of "Postdoctoral Position".
