Job Description:

Post-doctoral position in Image Processing and Optics.

Technicolor Research and Innovation, Rennes, France

STARTING DATE: 2013

DURATION: 18 months

SALARY: approx. 44kE gross yearly salary (approx. 3,000 Euros net monthly salary, health assurance included)

CONTEXT, TOPIC and ENVIRONMENT
Technicolor Research and Innovation seeks qualified candidates for a 1.5 year postdoctoral research position in optics design and image processing in the context of High Dynamic Range (HDR) video.
While HDR imagery have received a great deal of attention in the past years, only little has been done to date in the context of HDR video.
The goal of the work is twofold: (i) to specify and to design a dedicated optical module compatible with existing camera systems and, (ii) to develop the image processing algorithms that are necessary to produce HDR video from proposed capture system.
Optical design work includes:
- Optical design of an imaging optics with dedicated software;
- Tolerancing and specification of the optics;
- Follow-up of the prototype manufacturing;
- Development of calibration and adjustment procedures, evaluation of the optical performances of the optics.
Image processing pipeline includes:
- Image alignment and fusion;
- Tone Mapping;
- Analysis of the dynamic gain of the system.
Developments will be done in Zemax for optics, Matlab/C/C++ for image processing and will benefit from already existing in-house tools.
Beside scientific work (research, experiments, publications), the postdoctoral researcher will be involved in the management of the project, in close collaboration with senior staff, as well as in the internal and external demonstration of her/his results. She/he will be part of a team of approximately 20 people working on fundamental and applied aspects of video content analysis and management, in Technicolor Rennes research center, France.

TECHNICOLOR AT A GLANCE
Technicolor provides technology, systems and services to its Media & Entertainment clients involved in the different components of the video chain (content creation, production, distribution and access). Technicolor Research and Innovation (R&I) is composed of 4 research centers located in France (Rennes and Paris), the US (Palo Alto) and Germany (Hannover). R&I conducts basic and applied research to foster innovation within all Technicolor Business Units (BUs). It thus aims at providing BUs with cutting-edge
technologies fitting their needs as well as exploring longer term avenues toward new technologies and business opportunities.
Rennes centre (https://research.technicolor.com/rennes/) is the largest center of Technicolor R&I. It is located in middle of the a science park that gathers large corporate research centers (e.g., Orange, Canon) as well as major French academic research centers (e.g., INRIA, CNRS).

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidate should hold a Ph.D. degree in optics and skills in Image Processing. He/she should have a background in algorithmics and good programming skills.
