ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design mechanical systems of Fiber Optic Gyro based sensor and Inertial measurement unit (IMU) systems.
- Lead cross-functional design teams meeting product development requirements.
- Thorough understanding and use of the principals, theories, and concepts in mechanical engineering, as well as hands-on experience crafting simple proof of concept models for design implementation.
- Experience with tolerance stack-up analysis for mechanical components and assemblies.
- Experience writing and executing design verification testing (DVT) protocols.
- Work with QA to ensure the design meets industry standards.
- Drive improvements to internal processes and standards.
- In-depth understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ANSI Y14.5.
- Knowledge of thermal analysis and providing solutions to a variety of thermal and thermomechanical related issues.
- Experience in FEA analysis, in particular, Cosmos and/or Comsol.
- Work in collaboration with manufacturing, implementing Design to Cost (DTC) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) process.
- Must excel at multi-tasking, high attention to detail, well organized with strong analytical and communication skills.
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering, Optomechanical Engineering, or related field.
PREFERRED EDUCATION:
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Optomechanical engineering, or related field.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
- B.S. with 8 years, M.S. with 6 years, or Ph.D. with 3 years of experience in mechanical design and development with a track record for product realization in the field of Mechanical and/or Optomechanical engineering.
- Proficient with CAD design tools such as SolidWorks.
- Develop and review engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to work proactively and constructively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with optoelectronics packaging and routing of optical fiber.
- Prior experience in the mechanical design and fabrication of Fiber Optic Gyros and IMUs.
- Experience with tolerance stack-up analysis for mechanical components and assemblies.
- Design of precision Sensors or Sensor sub-systems.
- Experience in FEA analysis, in particular, Cosmos and/or Comsol.
- Experience working in the DoD / Military product environment.
- Experience with high volume / low-cost product design.
