Job Description
As a member of the Cree R&D team, you will support Cree’s leadership in a wide variety of LED products. You will be responsible for the development, design, and manufacture of turn-key LED solutions for customers. You will gain an understanding of and adhere to UL, Energy Star, and other certification requirements.

In particular, your efforts will focus on compact, high-performance, multi-functional encapsulation and packaging techniques for LED lighting. Further efforts will inevitably include procurement, reliability, manufacturability, and cost. In order to be successful in this role you will need an understanding of many aspects including wire bonding, encapsulation, power electronics, thermal and mechanical design, and you will continually improve existing processes as well as bring new designs from conception to manufacturing.

In this role you will perform a diverse mixture of activities and will have the ability to focus intensely on one effort without neglecting others. In order to accomplish your goals, you will need to maintain a very strong work ethic. For example, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning the activities of an R&D group that operates 24X7. This will require weekend work and availability at any time for problem solving.

This position is geared towards candidates that are more process development focused. However, as a member of the LED R&D team, you are expected to learn and adapt to other functions as needed and support production as well as design. For example, the company may require assistance with production or R&D electronics equipment as well.

To be successful in this role you will need to take a can-do approach towards continuous improvement and hard-to-reach goals. For example, after a good product with great efficiency, power factor, and other specifications is brought to market, higher goals will be set.
If this description has piqued your interest, keep reading to find out if you have the experience and background to be successful in this role.

REQUIREMENTS:

Strong hands-on based aptitude is required.
Self-starter, able to manage projects with minimal guidance.
Have a ‘whatever-it-takes’ attitude.
Thrive in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented atmosphere.
PREFERRED
Experience in optics, electrical engineering, and/or polymers
Experience with LED chips or components encapsulation
Efficient use of databases and data analysis tools such as SQL, Access, JMP, Excel, and VBA
No experience in semiconductors is required, but 3 to 5 years experience in R&D or manufacturing in a technical area is preferred.
