SSAI is seeking a Senior Research Scientist with experience in satellite calibration to work on projects at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. This position will support pre-flight and on-orbit calibration and characterization of optical Earth imaging sensors onboard current and upcoming NASA missions (such as JPSS VIIRS, MODIS and PACE), with a focus on processing and reduction of large data sets to meaningful performance metrics useful in determining and maintaining the calibration of the aforementioned sensors. The selected individual will require strong scientific programming and data analysis skills as well as working knowledge of the underlying physical processes. This individual will also support the dissemination of results through journal articles and other publications, web-based means, and through presentation and attendance at appropriate conferences, meetings, and teleconferences.

Required Qualifications:

  • MS in Physics, Engineering, Space Science, or related field of study and 5 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated experience with analysis software such as Matlab, IDL, or C/C++
  • Strong background in data analytics, preferably using IDL
  • Capable of working both independently and within a dynamic science team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and/or oral presentations made at major science conferences
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Residency required
  • Experience working with sensors testing, calibration and characterization desired
  • Experience with space dynamics, astronomy or SPICE toolkit a plus
