Job Description: 

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Directed Energy Directorate, Laser Division, located in Albuquerque, NM on Kirtland AFB is seeking candidates with an Electrical Engineering background for the position of Laser Integration and Demonstration (LID) Program, Control Systems Engineer/Dynamicist.  This position works closely with the LID program manager, principle investigator, and project team leads to ensure that complex data acquisition/control systems used in program facilities, directed energy test beds, and associated test diagnostics work efficiently and predictably. This position is responsible for enabling consistent operation, performance from control system architectures, developing data collection strategies, and identifying change or upgrades to control architectures to meet mission requirements, technology readiness, and laser system demonstration objectives.  Additionally, this position provides insight into the force, friction, and movement required in applying or enhancing the mechanical control processes used in the LID platform emulation facility.

Education or experience in the following areas is required: Control systems engineering, dynamics engineering; demonstrated performance in high visibility, applied technology demonstrations, preferably programs related to the application of directed energy systems or components.  Additionally, education or experience in these areas is helpful and highly desired: Understanding of project/program management techniques and methods utilized in multidisciplinary efforts, knowledge of cost, schedule and technical performance evaluation techniques, organizational and communications skills, as well as problem-solving ability.

This is a civilian position under the Laboratory Demonstration ("Lab Demo") pay plan, at the grade of DR-02 (roughly a GS-12/13 equivalent).  The salary range for a DR-02 is $76,204 to $119,660 which includes 16.68% Albuquerque locality pay. This position requires US citizenship and the ability to obtain/retain a Secret Security Clearance.  The Laser Division seeks recent PhD graduates with 5 years or less experience, or MS graduates with additional relevant experience.
