Job Description: 

As the Image Processing Engineer, this individual will be responsible for development and implementation of real-time image processing algorithms for endoscopic imaging and vision devices in R&D programs. This individual will use his/her strong skills in image processing, computer vision, mathematics, and software to build algorithms for state-of-the-art image pipelines. This position reports to the Manager, Vision Systems.

Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead image pipeline design in the Auris application portfolio
  • Develop image processing algorithms for low-latency implementation on programmable logic
  • Optimize pipeline parameters for excellent image quality
  • Develop software tools needed for optimization process
  • Work with clinical engineering to define best-in-class image quality
  • Act as a Vision Systems representative during system level hardware/software integration
  • Drive efforts to verify and validate new product designs
  • Prepare and mange test protocols and reports according to external and internal standards
  • Tabulate test data to support design specification and verify device performance.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, external consultants and design firms to assist in debugging and optimizing system performance
  • Assist in the preparation and review of patent applications
  • Evaluate new technologies related to endoscopic image processing
  • Other related duties as may be assigned

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, And Experience:

  • MS in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering/Optical Sciences, Physics, Biomedical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • 5 - 8 years of experience in the field of medical imaging device product design and development, preferably laparoscopy or endoscopy
  • Deep understanding of ISP algorithms, ISP tuning and 3A control
  • Experience in algorithm design for real-time implementation on programmable logic
  • Experience in objective and subjective image and video quality assessment
  • Proficiency in Matlab, OpenCV and Python
  • Experience dealing with medical professionals to identify clinical problems and implement solutions
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Superior written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to effectively and clearly communicate concepts, ideas and knowledge to other individuals and teams.
  • Comfortable working with and seeking optimum solutions with other team members, as well as team members in adjacent disciplines.
  • Ability to work in a regulated environment in compliance to ISO 13485 and 21 CFR 820.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, And Experience

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering/Optical Sciences, Physics, Biomedical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Proficiency in CUDA-C/C++
  • Experience in Verilog-based firmware development using Xilinx ISE/Vivado. Matlab-Simulink- Xilinx workflow knowledge a plus in for this position.
  • Familiarity with CMOS image sensors and serial sensor interface protocols
  • Working knowledge of electro-optical and opto-mechanical system architecture
