Job description and responsibilities
 
The successful candidate will design and construct R&D prototype laser systems (including solid state lasers and dye lasers), and harmonic conversion systems with unique performance characteristics. System architectures will include Q-switching, mode-locking, optical parametric oscillators and amplifiers, harmonic conversion and active and passive devices.
 
The candidate will assess the performance of these systems and their suitability for product development. Job duties include surveying the published literature, modeling of laser systems, procuring components, construction of laser systems, and creation and operation of appropriate diagnostic tools. After completion of the feasibility phase of the project the candidate will summarize and communicate the results to marketing and senior management and assist with transfer to engineering and production.
 
Education and work experience
  • Ph.D. degree in Optical Engineering and/or Physics
  • >3 years of experience in Industry is preferred.
  • Hands on experience with solid state lasers. Experience with dye laser is plus.
  • Broad knowledge base of various laser technologies
  • Hands on experience with Q-switched/mode locking lasers, nonlinear optical techniques or laser amplifiers
  • Proficient knowledge of laser test equipment and measurement procedures
  • Specialized skills such as numerical modeling and simulation tools for analyzing complex optical and laser systems
  • Experience developing medical devices is preferred
  • High level of motivation, self-organization, multi-tasking and analytical skills
  • Ideally expertise in project management
  • Target-oriented work approach to conclude tasks and to summarize and present complex issues
  • Superior problem-solving skills and have good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with coworkers and others by sharing ideas in a constructive, positive manner; listening to and objectively considering ideas and suggestions from others; keeping commitments
