Job Description: 

II-VI Optical Systems' designs, manufactures, assembles and tests precision optical systems and components. Our products have been deployed on military platforms such as submarines, tanks, missiles, fighter jets and UAV's. Basic Function:

Creates precision optical system and subsystem designs of high complexity.  Performs conceptual design work and may be asked to perform the function of team leader.  Reviews customer requirements to propose and implement design based solutions to meet specific application needs.  

Position Requirements:

Education:

BS or advanced degree in optics or physics, or achievement of equivalent experience in the optical field of specialty (e.g. optical design, optical metrology, etc.).

Work Experience:

Minimum 10 years, as Sr. Optical Engineer in an aerospace, manufacturing/engineering environment. Experience in the application and use of sophisticated analytical techniques and tools

Skills/Knowledge:

  1. Experience in conceptual development, detailed analysis, conceptual and detailed computer aided (e.g. Zemax, CodeV, FRED) design of optical imaging systems.
  2. Diverse optical sensor experience, including the design and modeling of ultraviolet, visual and infrared waveband systems, optically-passive a thermal sensors, illuminations and projection systems using coherent and incoherent sources. 
  3. Solid understanding of physical optics and system performance criteria.
  4. Strong technical knowledge of a wide application of principles, theories and concepts in the field of precision optical system and subsystem design.
  5. Strong verbal and written technical communication skills.
  6. Strong analytical skills is required to make analytic assessments of designs and make trades on the basis of both technical excellence and end item cost.
  7. Strong leadership abilities.
  8. Must be a self-starter, capable of developing innovative, original and efficient design concepts for precision optical systems, subsystems, and instruments that function in commercial, military and space environments.
  9. Must be available to work flexible hours to meet customer commitments and schedule requirements, as well as being available during regular working hours as required to interface with other employees.
  10. May require extensive travel (airplane and automobile).  Must be able to travel to customer locations and conduct both internal and external meetings.
  11. May be subject to a security investigation and meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  12. Project Management experience is desired.
