We achieve this goal by providing state of the art surface and wavefront interferometers, service, support and consulting on interferometer usage and applications.
Responsible for the design, development, and testing of optical and electro/optical equipment, components, or systems. Applies mathematical and engineering principles and methods to system designs. Studies new technologies and researches innovative solutions and product designs. May work with research teams to identify needs or resolve problems. Works on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state of the art technical or industry knowledge. Works under general supervision. Goals are generally communicated in solution or project goal terms.
  • Development of advanced electro-optical systems
  • Optical design with CAD software - Zemax
  • Systems level design, test and implementation including optics, electronics, mechanics, and software integration
  • Ability to learn and apply new programming tools and learn new technologies
  • Document the design principles required to enable the production design, assembly and test procedures assuring that a skilled assembler can manufacture the new products.
  • Support the transfer of developed technologies to production
  • Develop rough drafts of user manuals and assembly procedures as appropriate
  • Develop and present technical presentations, write journal papers and submit patents on developed technology
Supervisory Responsibility
No direct reports. May provide a leadership role for the work group through knowledge in the area of specialization.
Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office and laboratory environment. This role routinely uses electronic test equipment, optical instruments and standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
This position requires occasional travel. Most travel is outside the local area and overnight. Some of the travel is international.
Required Education and Experience
The minimum of a PhD or MS degree in Optics or Physics or related technical field and 5 years experience or equivalent.
